NYS Fall Prevention Network

The New York Fall Prevention Network is a collaborative initiative aimed at addressing the significant burden of fall-related injuries within the state. The network brings together healthcare professionals, community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to implement evidence-based strategies for fall prevention and promote safety and well-being across the lifespan. The network aims at raising awareness about the importance of fall prevention and empower individuals and communities to take proactive measures to reduce their risk of falls.

What is Evidence-Based?

In the context of fall prevention, "evidence-based" refers to the use of strategies, plans, or interventions that have been proven effective through scientific research and studies. It involves implementing practices that have been rigorously evaluated and shown to produce positive outcomes in terms of reducing falls, improving balance, and enhancing safety for older adults.

At AMOB training sessions, we talk about

  1. Exercises specifically designed to improve balance and strength

  2. Home modifications to reduce hazards

  3. Medication reviews to identify and minimize side effects that increase fall risk

  4. Education programs to raise awareness about fall prevention strategies.
